Support of the District's Long Range Facilities Plan

Duluthians asked for a Long-Range Facilities Plan for decades. Then they created one.

After decades of indecision and a number of failed attempts, the community told the school district to develop a solid, long-range plan—and then follow through with it.

Two years later, Superintendent Keith Dixon and facilities planning expert Johnson Controls began an 18-month community input process involving:

  • 120 open community meetings

  • data-driven, transparent and inclusive dialogue with the public

  • expert input and insight

  • statistical analysis

  • surveys

Based on this public input, several school configurations were considered—always with the commitment to maintain objectivity and fairness across the district. Duluthians pored over these configurations and ultimately and overwhelmingly supported the Red Plan — our Long-Range Facilities Plan.

In total, more than 1,600 pages of detailed information were compiled and reviewed.

It took a community to write the Red Plan, and that’s why its right for the whole community.
